A Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics (CEREC) crown is a relatively new field of dentistry that allows dentists to produce more functional and natural ceramic crowns in order to give you an improved smile.
How do CEREC Crown Work?
Usually, crowns manufactured in the lab require us to have the model of your teeth. This means that you have to hold a gooey alginate with your teeth for an extended period of time. Sometimes, this can get uncomfortable and messy. It can get really unpleasant for patients with a low gag reflex. However, with CEREC crowns, this is not the case. Instead of the long and tedious process, an impression is taken digitally using a scanner.
The process is done quicker and more comfortably, taking a 3D image of the area. Then, it is fed into a computer program for further processing. From this point, a 3D milling machine uses the image to cut out an exact replica of your dentition. Once it is cut out, the CEREC crown is then taken, assembled, and polished up to match your teeth. All this is done on the same day.
CEREC crowns are designed in a way that they eliminate any dental flaws you might have. The scans have an accuracy level of up to 99.99%, making them highly effective. The entire production process is computer-based, with little to no human element. Within a few minutes, you will be wearing your new CEREC crowns!
Keep in mind that CEREC crowns are slightly different from the usual crowns in terms of structure. They are lighter, durable, and of better quality. They are also easier to use and don't retain a lot of food particles. As a result, you can easily clean them. Contact our offices for more information on the CEREC crowns.
