Are Dentures and Veneers the Same Thing?

It could be because dentures and veneers are the two most common dental solutions for replacing missing teeth. However, each solution is designed to meet distinct needs, which is the first thing that makes them different.

What Are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are transformative coverings that dentists use to restore your broken smile. They are also necessary to cover severely discolored teeth that cannot be restored using the normal whitening process. Veneers are made using composite resin or porcelain and are necessary to fill small gaps or chips in teeth damaged during an injury.

What Are Dentures?

Dentures are generally defined as dental appliances used to replace missing teeth. Other people like to call them false teeth. Dentures are custom-made in a dental laboratory using the impressions taken of your mouth. Previously, dentures were removable, but modern technology has made it possible to surgically and permanently install dentures in your mouth.

The Difference Between Dentures and Veneers

The major difference between dentures and veneers boils down to the primary purpose of choosing either dental procedure. Essentially, you will need veneers when you want to make small corrections to your teeth. For example, if your teeth are discolored, chipped, or broken, you will need veneers to restore your smile to its original state.

However, veneers cannot replace a missing tooth, which is where dentures come in. Dentures are different from veneers because they are used to replace missing teeth. You can use dentures to replace two or three teeth, depending on your needs.

Which Is the Better Choice?

The short answer is that you do not have a choice regarding dentures and veneers. If your teeth need a cosmetic touch, you will need veneers to improve your smile. That is their primary purpose.

If you are missing a few teeth or have a few unhealthy teeth that should be extracted well, veneers will not solve your problem. You will have to go with dentures to restore your dental formulation.
