What Is the Difference Between Crowns Veneers and Bridges?

Your dentist will decide which treatment is best for you, but knowing their differences is essential. While all three offer restoration and beauty, here is a look at what they mean.

Dental Veneers Treatment

Dental veneers are a popular cosmetic treatment where a thin shell is placed over the front and sides of a tooth. Unlike crowns and bridges, veneers are only for looks, fixing issues like chipped, cracked, slightly crooked, gapped, or stained teeth. They do not improve oral health or make eating more accessible, but they can boost confidence by enhancing your smile. Porcelain veneers are the most popular type.

Dental Crowns Treatment

Dental crowns are different from veneers because they are used for restorative purposes. A crown covers a damaged tooth, saving it from being pulled and helping you eat normally again. Crowns can also improve appearance by covering cracked, chipped, or discolored teeth. The procedure is quick and straightforward. In the process, the crown is fitted and cemented over the damaged tooth. The main benefits of dental crowns include saving the tooth from extraction, preventing more damage, restoring eating functionality, and covering cosmetic flaws.

Dental Bridges Treatment

Dental bridges offer more detailed treatment for bigger gaps. Dental bridges fill the gaps left by one or more missing teeth. This treatment helps you eat better, prevents facial misalignment, and boosts self-confidence by restoring your smile. There are different types of dental bridges, including traditional bridges with crowns at both ends and more extensive bridges that require dental implants. These bridges can fill gaps from multiple missing teeth or even replace all the teeth in the upper or lower jaw.

Although veneers, crowns, and bridges may appear similar, they are different. Knowing the best option for you requires an examination from an experienced dentist. Please reach out to us by email or give us a call to talk to our prosthodontist about your options.
