However, not all plastic surgery procedures are just for the looks. Periodontal plastic surgery can improve your oral health while giving you the advantages of a better-looking smile! Periodontal surgery is surgery that can correct the gum tissue loss around the teeth, which is often a consequence of periodontal diseases. Periodontal, or gum disease, is a bacterial infection arising from plague.

What Periodontal Disease Does to Your Teeth

The bacterial infection is usually caused by food particles that get stuck and create plague. When the disease reaches the attachment to the teeth, it weakens the gum-line. This sometimes causes the gums to shrink back or recede, which can then expose the areas of the mouth near the roots, which puts the roots in danger. Not only does gum recession effect the health of your teeth, but it can affect the appearance of your mouth and smile.
